TRAVIS AIR MUSEUM One of the Largest Collections of Military Aircraft on the West Coast. ATTENTION: Currently the Travis Air Museum is unable to provide visitor escorts for base entry. We are working to reestablish our escort program in the coming weeks; please check back with us for updates. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. (posted 8 January 2010) Located an hour from San Francisco or Sacramento, the Travis Air Museum has 35 aircraft on display, assorted exhibits on military aviation, a gift shop, and picnic area. Museum of Military Aviation History: The Museum has a representative collection of American military aircraft from various periods: fighters, bombers, trainers, cargo and liaison aircraft. Its exhibits showcase Jimmy Doolittle and the Tokyo Raiders, the 15th AF in WWII, the Tuskegee Airmen, the Consairways story, the Berlin Airlift, and the history of Travis AFB with special emphasis on the Korean war, the war in Vietnam and other significant military missions. Additional Attractions: Other exhibits include a space capsule for children, air force uniforms, the nose of a WWII glider, WWII aircraft recognition models, a link trainer, aircraft engines, and the cockpits of a T-28, a T-37, and a F-100. Museum Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 9am-4pm. Closed Sundays, Mondays, and Federal holidays. Air park hours: Everyday until dark. Admission is free. Gift shop in the museum. Picnic area next door. Tours: Exhibits are self-explanatory. Guided tours are available by reservation for groups of ten or more. Ideal group size is 10-30 because of space restrictions among exhibits. Tours are designed for ages 12 and older. For tours for children under age 12 call the museum for availability. All children must be accompanied by adults. Allow 45 minutes for a tour. Visiting the Travis Air Museum: Anyone with official access to Travis Air Force Base is welcome to come to one of the largest collections of aircraft on the west coast. Unfortunately, due to security restrictions Travis AFB currently does not allow unlimited public access to the Travis Air Museum. The Travis Air Museum can accommodate limited numbers of public visitors depending on the availability of museum escorts. It is highly recommended to call the visitor center at (707) 424-1462 to determine if there are any restrictions to visiting the base and to call the museum at (707) 424-5883 to determine if there will be an escort available. We have a gift shop on site, but no snack bar. The Museum is open from 0900 to 1600 hrs on Tuesday through Saturday. The Museum is closed Sundays, Mondays and on Federal Holidays. If you are required to get a pass to enter Travis AFB, (see Access to Travis AFB) we are sorry, but you are not allowed to use any base restaurant or facility not directly supported through the Travis Air Museum, unless you are escorted by someone who has official access. Food is available at several restaurants located outside the main gate. If you wish to bring your own food or cooler with you, we do have a small picnic area available for your use. Directions: Take left out of Visitors Center parking lot, towards main gate. Go through main gate and then go 5 lights and take right at the C-141, Golden Bear. The Travis Air Museum will be on your left. Pull into parking lot and you may park your vehicle anywhere within the parking area. Events held at the Travis Air Museum: If you are holding an event requiring space inside the museum please be aware of our limitations. We have an area approximately 80 ft x 35 ft inside; a larger area is available outside. We have about 90 chairs and 8 tables. We have a podium and sound system for your use. Please bring at least 2 AA batteries with you, for the sound system mic. We may not have any additional good batteries at the time of your event if they fail. If you require any additional equipment you will have to provide it yourself. Please be aware that the Travis Air Museum staff do not set up or tear down event tables, chairs, or equipment. You will need to provide people to set up your event. At the close of your event you are required to break down and clean your area, to include sweeping and mopping. Museum staff will provide all materials for the clean up and must inspect the area prior to release. Please be advised the Travis Air Museum has no ability for cold storage. Please make other arrangements if you will be having food or beverages at your event. Tours Requiring a Docent: If during your visit you would like a Docent to lead a tour please notify the Travis Air Museum staff at least one week prior to the tour. Tours are provided for groups numbering 10 or more visitors. Groups numbering over 30 may require a second docent or be broken up into smaller groups for multiple back to back tours. Please consider this when you make your reservation. Be advised that our Docents are volunteers and are not subject to our schedule, but volunteer their time to share in the history of the Travis Air Museum. As such a Docent may not be available on the date and time of your choosing. If it is important that you have a Docent led tour, please be prepared to provide alternate dates if needed. Please provide the number and average age, in your party and time of tour. Be advised that we have special guidelines for student tours, or tours with many small children. Please contact our staff for the specifics. If you will require base access please read Access to Travis AFB. Access to Travis AFB: If you are traveling to the Travis Air Museum and you do not have someone with official access to Travis AFB to sponsor you, you will need to have an escort sponsor you and bring you to the Museum. You will be required go to the Travis AFB Visitors Center to present a valid drivers license, vehicle registration, current proof of insurance for each vehicle, and submit to a criminal background check. Be advised this is required for all vehicles regardless of type. If a bus or other commercial vehicle will be used, please collect vehicle and driver information to include drivers license, vehicle type, company owner, and contact information, for the vehicle company, and be prepared to provide it upon request. In addition, a valid photo ID is required for all visitors age 18 and older. Please contact the Travis AFB Visitors Center for all questions concerning access to the base and museum. Once this process has been completed and you have a pass, you will be escorted by authorized personnel to the Travis Air Museum. This pass is only valid for travel to and from the Travis Air Museum, is only valid for a specified time, and is not authorized for any other travel on Travis AFB. If you wish a tour of the base or more information please contact the Travis AFB Public Affairs office. ATTENTION: The Travis Air Museum is located on Travis Air Force Base, and as such, has many rules and safety measures governing vehicles and proper clothing apparel required for entrée, especially for those riding motorcycles or bicycles. Please contact the Visitors Center at (707) 424-1462 for the most up to date information. Travis AFB Visitors Center: If you have any questions or concerns about base access, please call the Travis AFB Visitors Center at (707) 424-1462 or e-mail: pass.id@travis.af.mil for all current guidelines required for access to Travis Force Air Base. For any visit that requires more than a single pass the Travis AFB Visitors Center may require a guest list to be submitted to them prior. If a guest list is required by the Visitors Center, you may need to provide the following for information. Be advised this is not required for all visitors, only for those that the Visitors Centers identifies as requiring it:

Large groups visiting the Travis Air Museum: It is advised that large groups (groups numbering over one car load or groups numbering over 6 visitors) that may require special access either due to a bus or several vehicles please contact the Travis AFB Visitors Center and obtain proper guidance and information on base entrée for your group. If you are coming from off Travis AFB and will require a pass to attend the museum, please comply with Access to Travis AFB above. For large groups you may be required to provide a list of all patrons with full names to the visitor’s center prior to your visit. Please contact the visitors center for guidance on this.
